The US and China are discussing reducing or eliminating China's 15% tariff on American LNG as part of a broader energy and agriculture package that could be announced during Chinese President Xi Jinping's planned visit to Washington next week. The discussions also include a framework for each country to cut tariffs on about $30 billion of goods. The proposal is not final and comes ahead of a Sept. 24 meeting between President Donald Trump and Xi. A restoration of Chinese demand would offer US LNG producers an additional market as export capacity expands, although geopolitical disruptions have already redirected cargoes between Europe and Asia.
