The U.S. State Department approved a possible $2.68 billion foreign military sale to Ukraine for air defense development upgrades, equipment and related services. Ukraine requested S-300 clone missiles, GAM-67 missiles, range-extended air defense laser-guided rocket missile systems, launcher modification kits and counter-drone radars. The package also covers erectable mast trailers, spare parts, software, engineering and logistics support. If concluded, European contributions and U.S. Foreign Military Financing appropriated under the previous administration would fund the deal, with the U.S. financing counted as a contribution to the Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund through 1:1 reimbursement. The proposed sale requires congressional review, would improve Ukraine’s ability to address current and future threats and would require no additional U.S. personnel in Ukraine.
