Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said housing policy was a major reason for President Lee Jae-myung’s declining approval ratings, arguing that the government’s approach could push property prices higher and worsen Seoul’s jeonse shortage. Speaking on the 19th, a day after Lee’s news conference, Oh said the president had shown no sign of changing course and should take responsibility for the disappearance of jeonse listings. He rejected Lee’s suggestion that Oh and others contributed to Seoul’s price surge, citing former Mayor Park Won-soon’s lifting of 389 redevelopment and rebuilding zones and the resulting loss of potential supply totaling 430,000 homes. Oh also criticized the government’s farmland survey, opposed any housing construction in Yongsan Park and retained his earlier positions on separate legal and political issues involving Kim Seung-won, Myung Tae-kyun and Kim Han-jung.
