Overseas-focused ETFs accounted for 15 of the 37 products launched in South Korea from July through Sept. 18, lifting their share to 40.5% from 27.2% in the first half of the year. Across all 137 ETFs listed from January through Sept. 18, 42, or 30.88%, tracked overseas assets. The shift comes as the KOSPI has corrected since late June and traded around 6,000 for three months, prompting asset managers to favor U.S. AI, semiconductor and mixed domestic-overseas strategies. Overseas-focused products represented 81.9% of launches in the first half of 2025 and 52% in the second half, before the share fell to 27.2% in the first half of 2026 as South Korean stocks rallied. Fund flows have also narrowed the gap between the two largest South Korea-listed ETFs: KODEX 200's net assets fell 14.4% from end-June to 24.6483 trillion won by Sept. 17, while TIGER US S&P 500 rose 2.5% to 20.5459 trillion won. The broader domestic ETF market fell to 456 trillion won on Sept. 18 from a record 519 trillion won on June 25.
