DS Asset Management plans to launch the DS AI Semiconductor Active ETF next month, its second ETF, with more than 60% of assets allocated to companies listed on Korea’s KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets across chipmakers, high-bandwidth memory (HBM), materials, components, equipment and AI infrastructure. Separately, SK hynix’s American Depositary Receipt (ADR), traded under ticker SKHY, received an approximately 4.8% weighting in the MVIS U.S. Listed Semiconductor 25 Index after its September rebalancing, roughly two months after Nasdaq trading began on July 10. The inclusion prompted VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH), the largest U.S.-listed semiconductor ETF with about $70 billion in net assets, and Samsung Asset Management’s KODEX U.S. Semiconductor ETF to add the ADR. Expected passive inflows include about $3.36 billion from SMH and roughly 58 billion won for KODEX, which has 1.2 trillion won in net assets. Other Korean asset managers have also added the security. At the Sept. 18 close, the ADR’s $33.3 billion market capitalization was about 10% of the estimated capital expected to enter through the rebalancing. The ADR traded at $187.50, or about 258,500 won, versus 185,700 won, or $142.85, for the Korean-listed shares, a 39.2% disparity. Securities firms say profit-taking could pressure the ADR while global funds buy the relatively cheaper original shares, potentially narrowing the gap.
