President Donald Trump remains in "deciding mode" over Iran, keeping military escalation, economic pressure and negotiations open as the conflict enters its seventh month. He said "very big things" could happen soon, warned Iran to "behave" and told Axios that he was considering whether to "annihilate" the Iranian regime, adding that "anything could happen." A Fox News report said Trump described the options as wiping Iran out, allowing it to deteriorate economically or making a deal. The crisis has pushed the U.S. national average gasoline price to $4.476 a gallon, according to AAA Gas Prices data, with Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz contributing to the increase. Trump is expected to meet six Persian Gulf leaders during the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the conflict and postwar planning. Washington has permitted a core Iranian delegation, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to attend. The conflict has cost $43.6 billion through Sept. 3, with 18 U.S. service members killed and more than 830 wounded. The House voted 220-204 on Sept. 15 to curb unauthorized U.S. military operations against Iran.
