ABB has launched Infinitus, an integrated direct-current (DC) portfolio for AI data centers, as Bloom Energy promotes an 800V DC-native architecture using on-site solid oxide fuel cells. Both approaches aim to reduce conversion losses, infrastructure footprint and power consumed by conventional AC systems as AI rack demand rises. ABB says DC distribution could serve 25% to 40% of new data center capacity in 2030, while Bloom estimates a 1 GW facility could reduce non-compute capital spending by $3.6 billion, or 27%, and save $5.5 billion in total ownership costs over five years. ABB expects the first complete Infinitus DC-native facilities within two to three years, and NVIDIA plans 800V DC standards for its Rubin Ultra and Kyber rack architectures starting in 2027.
