Bitcoin rose above $84,000 on Monday after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said it could reach $300,000 to $400,000 by 2030. Armstrong said Bitcoin’s recent decline to $60,000 may have marked the bottom of its latest cycle, citing a historical pattern in which rallies around halving events have been followed by downturns lasting about a year. He also pointed to continued growth in stablecoins, perpetual futures, prediction markets and AI-powered finance regardless of Bitcoin’s short-term moves. Coinbase is developing infrastructure around its Base blockchain, USDC and the x402 payment protocol as AI systems move toward completing tasks that require payments. Armstrong’s comments followed the Senate’s failure to advance the Clarity Act. Although Coinbase supported the latest draft after lawmakers addressed four concerns, he said the company would assume the bill is dead unless revived. He expects the SEC and CFTC to advance crypto rules using existing authority, including possible use of the SEC’s innovation exemption for tokenized stocks. Coinbase also aims to tokenize private companies, Treasuries, investment funds and other assets, while promoting tokenized equities and perpetual futures in the United States.
