Coinbase Financial Markets has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the U.S. derivatives regulator, to list single-stock perpetual futures tied initially to Apple, Tesla and Nvidia. Perpetual futures are leveraged contracts without a fixed expiry date, allowing traders to take long or short exposure without owning the underlying shares. The submission was made through the CFTC's Part 40 product-certification process, so the contracts are not yet live and remain in regulatory review. The filing is part of Coinbase's broader effort to develop regulated derivatives infrastructure in the United States rather than replicate offshore products outside the domestic regulatory framework. Its Designated Contract Market status provides a venue for bringing products within the CFTC framework, although it does not guarantee approval or immediate trading. If cleared, the product could establish a regulated model for single-stock perpetuals that might eventually extend to more equities.
