South Korea’s scheduled apartment move-ins reached 16,567 units in October, up 65% from September’s 10,057 and the fourth-highest monthly total this year, according to real estate platform Zigbang. The greater Seoul area accounts for 7,924 units, up 14% from the previous month, while other regions account for 8,643, about 2.8 times September’s 3,121. Seoul leads the greater Seoul area with 3,302 units, followed by Gyeonggi Province with 2,788 and Incheon with 1,834. Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City accounts for 5,671 units, or 66% of the total outside the greater Seoul area. The increase comes as apartment occupancy weakens: the nationwide rate fell to 59.5% in August, with inability to secure financing for the balance of the purchase price cited in 37.2% of failed move-ins. Zigbang said the outlook index for Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City fell 22.3 points to 77.7 in September as supply became concentrated in Jangseong during September and October.
