S&P Global has entered a definitive agreement to acquire OpenZeppelin, one of crypto’s best-known smart contract security and auditing firms. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the transaction has not yet closed. OpenZeppelin provides smart contract (self-executing blockchain code) libraries, auditing tools and development-security services across much of the Ethereum and DeFi (decentralized finance) ecosystem. The deal would give S&P Global deeper technical expertise for assessing blockchain infrastructure as tokenized bonds, stablecoins and institutional networks increasingly use smart contracts. That shifts vulnerabilities in code from a software concern into a potential financial risk. The proposed acquisition also reflects crypto infrastructure’s movement toward traditional finance, although it remains subject to customary closing conditions. S&P Global’s announcement was dated Sept. 17, 2026.
