South Korean startups are revising their Southeast Asian expansion plans after testing domestic assumptions through local user interviews, venture capital meetings and Google expert sessions. The Changgu Immersion Trip, operated by South Korea's Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development and Google Play, brought 14 participants and graduates of the Changgu app and game startup program to the region this year. Four companies briefed the press at Google Singapore on the 18th. TeamLimited moved away from an Indonesia-first approach after finding that user acquisition would not easily translate into a viable purchase-data business, and is prioritizing Singapore because of its online payment penetration and data infrastructure. It plans to launch a cashback app while using Google Gemini to analyze more than 2 million receipts each month. Nuttycode found that mental-health and counseling taboos require a different product tone across Southeast Asia and is considering Ramadan-focused features for Indonesia and Malaysia. Devunlimit is expanding its AI K-pop dance platform Sparky toward fitness, including possible calorie-tracking and aerobic-exercise functions. AMUSE8 found strong interest among younger Singaporean investors in U.S. and Chinese markets, ETFs and gold, and plans to improve Wolwol's short-form links between market movements and real-time events. The companies also said AI tools are allowing very small teams to test country-level applications rapidly, reinforcing the need for country-specific, on-the-ground validation.
