IBM shares traded at $229.66, up 0.05%, after earlier rising above $233 as the IBM Institute for Business Value released research showing that 60% of employees worry AI is eroding their skills. The study surveyed 1,500 CHROs and 8,800 full-time employees between April and June 2026 across 21 geographies and 23 industries, with support from Oxford Economics. It found a gap between executive priorities and employee perceptions: 71% of CHROs identified supervising, validating and overriding AI outputs as essential, while only 29% of employees ranked human judgment among important skills. Critical thinking was the skill employees most often believed could decline, and three-quarters of concerned employees said AI had already weakened at least some abilities. Organizations that clearly separate human and AI responsibilities reported 18% lower risk and 20% higher quality, yet 46% exclude the CHRO from broader AI strategy discussions. The research also identified accountability concerns, additional unrecognized work and limited AI adoption within HR.
