Tesla has reopened reservations for its long-delayed second-generation Roadster ahead of an October 1 reveal, requiring prospective buyers to commit $50,000 through a refundable $5,000 card payment and a $45,000 wire transfer due within 10 days. Tesla has not disclosed the vehicle's final price, though it is expected to exceed $250,000. The company says specifications, options and hardware remain subject to change, while its website advertises acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.1 seconds, a top speed above 400 kilometers per hour and a projected range of 1,000 kilometers. The Information has reported that the event could feature a limited-edition version using cold-gas thrusters developed with SpaceX, potentially enabling hovering or flying capabilities. Elon Musk said at the All-In Summit that the event would be exciting but that success was not guaranteed. Tesla first announced the successor in 2017 and had initially targeted deliveries for 2020. The original Roadster, based on a Lotus Elise chassis, was Tesla's first electric vehicle and was sold from 2008 to 2012. The October event follows Tesla's Cybercab unveiling and comes ahead of a Tesla Semi event on September 24, third-quarter delivery figures and quarterly results. Tesla shares rose 1.3% to $368.98 in Monday premarket trading after declining 0.5% on Friday. Investors are also watching Cybercab regulatory questions from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Tesla's recent financial performance.
