Nvidia shares rose approximately 1% on Monday amid broader gains in technology and artificial-intelligence stocks as Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang rejected predictions that AI could cause human extinction by 2030, assigning that outcome a 0% probability. In a CBS interview, Huang said AI safety concerns were legitimate but argued that public doomsday warnings lacked a scientific basis and that companies should focus engineering resources on safety and verification. He said existing US laws covering liability, cybersecurity and contractual obligations should be enforced before lawmakers create AI-specific rules. Huang's position contrasts with calls from Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk for more cautious development. President Donald Trump has also opposed additional AI regulation, announced plans for an AI Force modeled on Space Force and said he would appoint an AI czar, without naming one or setting a timeline. A proposed class-action lawsuit filed in California federal court by four AI users accuses Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and SpaceXAI of unlawfully coordinating to restrict AI advancement. The allegations remain unproven, and Nvidia is not a defendant. The debate matters to Nvidia because its valuation, which existing coverage places at about $5.3 trillion, is tied to continued demand for AI chips, data centers and other infrastructure.
