The Korea Exchange said average daily trading in its after-hours market reached 54.85 million shares, worth 1.1 trillion Korean won, during the first operating week from September 14 to 18. Individual investors accounted for 90.4% of transaction value, compared with 6.7% for foreigners and 2.6% for institutions. After-hours turnover equaled 4.6% of regular-session turnover, while trading volume was equivalent to 6.1% of regular-session volume. Trading took place in 2,379 of 2,763 eligible securities, or 86.1%. The market recorded 5,354 volatility interruptions during the week, with daily triggers falling from 1,112 on the opening day to 553 on September 18. The exchange said trigger counts alone do not establish that volatility was elevated, while high-low volatility remained below regular-session levels across all five sessions. Average high-low volatility was 2.1% versus 3.8% for KOSPI stocks and 3.5% versus 5.4% for KOSDAQ stocks. The Market Oversight Commission will operate a nine-member special surveillance task force through year-end, combining regular- and after-hours trading records and extending unfair-trading prevention measures into nighttime hours. The exchange may extend the task force depending on market conditions.
