Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said artificial intelligence developers should remain legally accountable for their products and should not receive federal liability protection. In a CNBC "Squawk Box" interview, he also defended the Treasury Department's purchases of long-dated securities after the 10-year Treasury yield rose above 5% last week for the first time since 2007. The Treasury bought more than $5 billion in 10-year and 20-year securities on September 10, an operation Bessent said limited further yield increases. The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark target range to 3.75% to 4% on September 16, its first increase since 2023, citing elevated inflation.
