The Zcash Foundation has denied any connection to ZRC-20 and the CASH token after BSCN promoted the project in a Sept. 20 post titled "Zcash Has Tokens Now." The Foundation said it had no prior knowledge of either project and described ZRC-20 as a private initiative rather than an official Zcash token standard or protocol feature. It urged users to research the project before interacting with it. ZRC-20 is modeled partly on Bitcoin’s BRC-20 inscriptions and proposes fungible-token operations through encrypted Zcash memo data, with independent indexers replaying transactions and calculating balances outside Zcash consensus. The draft requires no consensus change, ZIP or smart contracts, and Zcash nodes neither validate nor reject its token records. Its promoters say the system is not automatically private, while the draft remains a work in progress with unresolved technical questions. CASH is presented as the first ZRC-20 token and has a 21 million supply cap. Bitrue warned users to verify the official mint interface, ticker and launch status because fake mint pages and copycat tokens can appear quickly. The clarification came as ZEC traded around $1,480 after crossing $1,500 on Sept. 18, with the rally supported in part by more than $500 million drawn by Grayscale’s ZCSH ETF within two weeks of its Aug. 25 listing.
