The Inter-American Development Bank is preparing a two-year engagement plan for Venezuela, with electricity and social protection among its priorities. IDB President Ilan Goldfajn said the bank has sent missions to assess the country’s macroeconomic framework, data and sector requirements before completing an engagement note. The IDB halted new lending to Venezuela in May 2018 after missed payments and still has about $2 billion in outstanding Venezuelan loans. Goldfajn did not say how the arrears would be addressed or when financing might restart, and said the bank is not currently preparing its own debt-sustainability analysis.
