The Dallas Stars signed forward Sam Steel to a four-year, $14.8 million contract extension on Monday, Sept. 21, covering the 2027-28 through 2030-31 seasons with an average annual value of $3.7 million. Steel, 28, set career highs with 12 goals, 21 assists and 33 points in 73 games for Dallas in 2025-26. General manager Jim Nill cited Steel’s consistency, penalty-killing work and versatility as reasons for the extension. Steel has 175 points, including 61 goals and 114 assists, in 491 career games with the Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild and Stars. Drafted 30th overall by Anaheim in 2016, the Alberta native has added 14 points in 48 playoff games and helped Dallas reach the Western Conference final in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
