Samsung C&T has agreed to invest up to $100 million in a strategic partnership with Kairos Power, strengthening its position in the U.S. advanced small modular reactor sector. The companies are set to formalize the agreement during Climate Week NYC in New York, held Sept. 20-27. Existing details say the commitment includes about $70 million in equity and in-kind engineering services valued at up to $100 million overall. Samsung C&T will support Kairos’ Hermes demonstration project, receive priority for engineering, procurement and construction work on future U.S. commercial reactors, and explore opportunities in South Korea, Southeast Asia and Europe. Kairos uses molten-salt cooling and is developing non-light-water reactors, including Hermes projects linked to Google’s plan to procure up to 500 megawatts of advanced nuclear capacity by 2035.
