Solana rose 8% to about $119 on September 21, its highest level since January, as the broader cryptocurrency market recovered. The token advanced from around $110.69 after breaking the $112.50 resistance level, triggering stop-loss orders, new buying and the closure of losing short positions. More than $33.70 million in Solana positions were liquidated over 24 hours, including $30.42 million in shorts, or nearly 90% of the total. Futures volume increased 89% to $13.33 billion, while open interest (the value of outstanding futures contracts) rose 9.10% to $7.28 billion. Solana ETFs recorded 12 consecutive weeks of inflows totaling more than $1.4 billion. On the weekly chart, veteran trader Peter Brandt identified a possible five-year cup-and-handle pattern, a chart formation featuring a rounded recovery followed by consolidation. The pattern places resistance near $240, requiring a sustained break above that level for confirmation. From about $116, a move to $240 would represent roughly 106% upside. Traders may also take profits after the sharp advance. The $80-$85 area remains key support, while a break below it could weaken the pattern. An ADX near 20 indicates limited trend strength, and a falling ATR points to lower volatility and continued price compression.
