San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu sued Trump Media & Technology Group, alleging its Truth API service violates California’s Unfair Competition Law by giving paying firms early access to President Trump’s Truth Social posts. The service costs up to $100,000, with a discounted $60,000 plan available to firms signing three-year contracts, and was designed to provide investment firms real-time access to posts from the highest-ranking Truth Social accounts. Chiu argues the arrangement allows wealthy traders to act on market-moving government information before the public, citing Trump’s April 9, 2025 post urging users to buy before a 90-day tariff pause, after which markets rose. Trump Media disputes the allegations. The California case follows a separate federal lawsuit seeking a preliminary injunction, supported by 53 former federal prosecutors and agents who say the arrangement could raise insider-trading, public-corruption, gratuities, conflicts-of-interest, outside-compensation and trade-secrets concerns.
