Alibaba has launched the Zhenwu V900, an AI accelerator from its T-Head semiconductor division that the company describes as its most powerful domestically developed chip to date. Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu said customer demand for AI is exceptionally strong and that Alibaba Cloud will fully commit to infrastructure development, targeting global data center capacity of more than 20 gigawatts by 2032. The announcement drove Alibaba-W shares more than 4% higher intraday in Hong Kong on the 22nd, before they traded 3.82% higher at HK$116.9, with turnover of HK$6.825 billion. T-Head says the V900 delivers three times the computing power of the Zhenwu M890 and is designed for clusters of up to 500,000 accelerators for frontier-model training. Alibaba has also committed more than $53 billion to AI capabilities over three years, raised about $10.2 billion through an August Hong Kong follow-on offering, and plans to develop a model with 5 trillion to 10 trillion parameters. The company’s broader strategy combines expanded computing capacity, internally developed chips and large-scale models, while T-Head prepares to scale annual chip shipments and plans a listing.
