Asian shares headed for a sixth consecutive session of gains as strong consumer uptake of AI applications supported technology stocks, particularly in South Korea and Taiwan. South Korea's benchmark rose 1.2%, with Samsung and SK Hynix each gaining more than 2%, while Taiwan's index added 0.9% near record levels. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan advanced 0.7%. Oil prices eased after sources said Saudi Arabia had restarted its East-West Pipeline and may have resumed exports from Yanbu, while geopolitical uncertainty persisted around US President Donald Trump's comments on Iran. Brent futures fell 0.1% to $99.18 a barrel and US crude declined 0.4% to $90.14. Investors also awaited Chinese President Xi Jinping's arrival in Washington amid speculation that the US-China trade truce could be extended and that the countries could cooperate on AI. Hawkish Federal Reserve commentary pushed two-year Treasury yields to their highest since mid-2024 and supported the dollar, while futures implied a 54% chance of another Fed rate increase in October. Gold slipped 0.3% to $4,341 an ounce, while copper remained near record highs after rising 18% this year.
