Switzerland’s current-account surplus nearly doubled to CHF 23.7 billion in the second quarter of 2026, as stronger goods exports supported the recovery of the export-oriented economy. The Swiss National Bank said the surplus compared with CHF 13.8 billion a year earlier, while an earlier account cited in the existing record put the prior-year figure at a downwardly revised CHF 10.2 billion. The goods surplus reached nearly CHF 30 billion, while the services account recorded a CHF 4.4 billion deficit. Exports increased 5.5% during the quarter, and transit trade also rose as companies resold goods and services abroad without bringing them through Switzerland. The deficit on gold trading was smaller than a year earlier. The overall surplus was Switzerland’s largest since the first quarter of 2025 and followed economic disruption last year from higher U.S. tariffs. The government upgraded its economic-growth forecast for 2026 last week.
