Republican Sen. John Curtis of Utah asked the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden over business dealings, foreign relationships, gifts and benefits potentially linked to their fathers' presidencies. The request followed ProPublica's report that Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin, helped pay for a private island rental and fireworks after Trump Jr.'s May wedding to Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas. Curtis said the same standard should apply to relatives of Republican and Democratic presidents. President Donald Trump defended the arrangement and said his son would repay Kremlev. Curtis also cited Trump Jr.'s cryptocurrency ventures, international real-estate activity and prediction-market relationships, alongside Hunter Biden's business dealings with foreign entities. House Republicans investigated Hunter Biden in 2023 and 2024, accusing Joe Biden of helping enrich his family, though the House never voted on impeachment articles.
