Demand for enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs), storage devices built for data centers and servers, is accelerating as artificial intelligence expands beyond model training into inference and agent-based applications. Cloud service providers have repeatedly raised forecasts, and fourth-quarter eSSD orders could exceed the high level recorded in the third quarter. Real-time AI workloads are increasing the need to process and store larger data volumes. Demand is broadening from high-performance Triple Level Cell products to higher-capacity Quad Level Cell (QLC) drives, which store four bits per cell and can reduce costs. JPMorgan expects eSSD to represent 48% of global NAND flash demand by 2027, ahead of smartphones and PCs. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are responding with new PCIe 6.0, QLC and liquid-cooling-supported products for AI storage workloads.
