Republican Sen. John Curtis of Utah is urging Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dick Durbin to investigate whether presidential family relationships were used for private financial benefit, preferential treatment or access. His Monday letter requests subpoenas for Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden to testify about instances in which their relationships to the president were invoked or understood to provide value. Curtis cited ProPublica’s report that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev paid hundreds of thousands of dollars toward Trump Jr.’s three-day wedding celebration in the Bahamas, including a private-island rental. He also pointed to Trump Jr.’s paid strategic-adviser role at Kalshi, advisory-board position at Polymarket, partnership at 1789 Capital, which has invested in Polymarket, family-backed cryptocurrency ventures, international real estate dealings involving foreign heads of state and reported defense-sector investments. Curtis framed the request as a bipartisan test of congressional oversight, noting that House Republicans subpoenaed Hunter Biden in 2023 during their impeachment inquiry into then-President Biden. Trump Jr. confirmed Kremlev hosted celebrations and described them as a wedding gift, while President Trump called the arrangement totally allowed and said he had been told his son would repay Kremlev. Hunter Biden has denied involving his father in business dealings; the White House, Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden had not responded to requests for comment.
