South Africa’s data center market was valued at USD 2.55 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 5.28 billion by 2031, representing a compound annual growth rate of 12.90%. Growth is being supported by cloud adoption, artificial intelligence investment, hyperscale development, rising colocation demand and the expansion of digital services. Johannesburg remains the country’s leading data center destination, supported by advanced facilities, hyperscale campuses, dedicated cloud regions, connectivity and enterprise demand. The market includes 55 existing third-party data center facilities and five identified upcoming facilities across more than 25 locations. Investment is also increasing in AI-ready infrastructure, renewable power procurement and new capacity, including a Vantage Data Centers-Attacq project planned for approximately 80 MW in Johannesburg and a Cassava Technologies facility hosting about 3,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
