President Donald Trump bought between $15,001 and $50,000 of SpaceX shares on July 10 and sold between $1,001 and $15,000 on July 17, according to a financial disclosure he signed on September 8 and the U.S. Office of Government Ethics posted on September 22. The transactions were among 1,156 securities trades executed through accounts tied to Trump in July, with combined purchases and sales ranging from roughly $79 million to $270 million. Purchases totaled at least $43.6 million and sales at least $35.6 million, though federal reporting ranges prevent precise position estimates. The SpaceX trades create a financial link between Trump and Elon Musk's rocket company, a U.S. military contractor that often seeks federal approvals, as the administration makes decisions that could affect its business. SpaceX listed on Nasdaq on June 12 at an IPO price of $135, and its shares closed about 19% higher on their first trading day, putting its market capitalization at about $2.1 trillion. Reuters previously reported that Trump bought SpaceX shares in June. His 2025 annual disclosure listed more than 21,000 trades across eight accounts holding at least $858 million in assets, while the White House says third-party institutions independently manage the portfolio through discretionary accounts.
