Strategy CEO Phong Le said, in a half-joking exchange on Natalie Brunell’s Coin Stories podcast, that JPMorgan chief Jamie Dimon may privately support Bitcoin despite years of public criticism. Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, is a U.S. software firm and the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, with about 846,000 coins, or roughly 4% of the total supply. Le said he does not want the company to become a bank, but instead aims to place it at the center of Bitcoin-based finance by developing and selling investment products similar to JPMorgan’s Wall Street offerings. He said Bitcoin would improve rather than replace the existing financial system and that the U.S. dollar would remain in place. Le also described Bitcoin and artificial intelligence as the two most important technologies of the century. Dimon called Bitcoin a “pet rock” in 2024 and likened buying it to smoking in January 2025, while saying digital currency would eventually emerge and that he was not opposed to crypto generally. JPMorgan has nevertheless moved closer to digital assets: in October 2025, it said institutional clients could use Bitcoin as loan collateral while third-party firms held the coins, and the bank holds a substantial position in Bitcoin ETFs. Donald Trump said in July last year that Dimon had softened his stance and briefly supported him for Treasury Secretary. Dimon’s later criticism continued, including his May 2026 statement that U.S. banks would oppose the CLARITY Act over rewards paid to stablecoin holders (holders of dollar-pegged digital tokens).
