MediaTek has expanded beyond mobile processors with the Dimensity CX C10 Max, its first flagship PC system-on-chip, entering Google’s premium Googlebook laptop supply chain while pursuing customized data-center silicon. Built by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. on a 3-nanometer-class process, the chip combines an eight-core Arm CPU, an 11-core Immortalis-G925 GPU and an eighth-generation NPU 890 capable of up to 55 TOPS for on-device AI. On August 31, MediaTek secured a $3.5 billion convertible-bond investment from NVIDIA and adopted NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion interconnect to develop customized XPUs for hyperscalers including Google and Amazon. MediaTek expects about $2 billion in data-center-customized semiconductor revenue this year and aims to capture up to 15% of an AI data-center market projected at $80 billion next year. The expansion reflects Taiwan’s broader move from foundry dominance into fabless chip design, while MediaTek faces competition from Intel, Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics.
