The Charlotte Hornets are acquiring shooting guard Buddy Hield from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for forward Dorian Finney-Smith, ESPN reported Tuesday. Charlotte will also receive point guard Ryan Nembhard and cash considerations, although the Hornets reportedly plan to waive Nembhard. Atlanta will create a $2.1 million trade exception, while Charlotte will create a $4.5 million exception. Hield, 33, is set to join his seventh NBA team after making 2,201 3-pointers, the 15th-most in league history, while shooting 39.5% from beyond the arc. He has career averages of 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Hield split last season between the Golden State Warriors, where he played 44 games, and the Hawks, where he played seven, averaging a career-low 7.6 points per game. His best scoring season came with the Sacramento Kings in 2018-19, when he averaged 20.7 points. Finney-Smith, 33, averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 37 games, including one start, for the Houston Rockets last season before being traded to Charlotte in July. He spent his first 6 1/2 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks and later played for the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Rockets. He is entering his 11th NBA season and has career averages of 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds over 628 games, including 445 starts. Nembhard, 23, was an undrafted rookie who averaged 6.6 points and 5.3 assists in 60 games, including 27 starts, for Dallas last season. Atlanta acquired him in July through a three-team trade that also included the Oklahoma City Thunder.
