The Korean won strengthened against the US dollar to 1,351.9 at 9 a.m. on the 23rd, down 6.3 won, or 0.46%, from the previous trading day’s close. The move followed a 22.8-won decline the previous day, when the exchange rate ended the weekly session at 1,358.2 as corporate dollar-selling accelerated. Major exporters have been selling dollars ahead of Chuseok, a Korean harvest holiday, while quarter-end seasonal flows have increased regional dollar supply, said Min Kyung-won, a researcher at Woori Bank. Analysts expect the exchange rate to edge lower, though the decline may be limited if importers and investors seeking US stocks step in to buy dollars at cheaper levels.
