Genesis will launch the GV80 Hybrid, its first hybrid model, sometime next month, with industry sources estimating an entry price of about 80 million won ($57,600). That would place it above the gasoline GV80 2.5, which starts at 68.86 million won, although the final price has not been announced. Hyundai Motor and Kia hybrids in the mid- to large-size segment have typically carried premiums of 5 million to 6 million won over internal-combustion models, but analysts say that comparison may not fit the GV80 Hybrid because it uses a rear-wheel-drive hybrid system developed exclusively for Genesis. The 2.5-liter turbocharged electrified powertrain (engine and electric propulsion system) is intended to improve power delivery and quietness. The Lexus RX, a benchmark in South Korea’s premium hybrid SUV market, starts at 87.9 million won for the RX 350h, with higher trims at about 98.7 million won. Some observers say pricing below 80 million won could give the GV80 Hybrid an advantage, while Genesis said the price has not been finalized and will be disclosed when sales begin.
