The USD/KRW exchange rate closed at 1,358.4 won per dollar on the 23rd, up 0.2 won from the previous session after briefly falling into the 1,340-won range. Exporter dollar sales ahead of the Chuseok holiday and the end of the quarter and month, along with improved risk appetite, created excess supply and strengthened the won early in the session. The decline later reversed as importer settlement demand, resident purchases for overseas investments and bargain buying emerged, while South Korea's foreign exchange market is expected to remain open during Chuseok under its 24-hour trading system, with thinner liquidity.
