ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s largest DRAM manufacturer, increased contracted but unspent commitments for long-term asset acquisitions and construction to 52.4439 billion Chinese yuan by the end of June, up 206.2% from the end of last year. The company is using stronger profitability and cash flow generated during the DRAM shortage to expand production, develop new processes and pursue longer-term customer agreements. DDR4 8Gb contract prices rose 338.6% year over year as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron prioritized high-bandwidth memory and server DRAM for artificial-intelligence demand. CXMT’s market share, revenue growth, research spending and adoption of newer LPDDR products all increased, positioning it as a broader competitor to Korean suppliers in general-purpose DRAM. TrendForce expects supply to remain insufficient until 2027, with major new capacity contributing around 2028, giving CXMT time to strengthen its manufacturing base and customer relationships. If new investments translate into stable yields and mass production, increased Chinese supply could give smartphone and PC makers more sourcing options and weaken Korean companies’ pricing power in conventional DRAM.
