Taiwan’s Central Bank said daily average monetary aggregates M1B and M2 grew 6.65% and 6.79% year-on-year, respectively, in August 2026, with both rates moderating from July. M2 rose 6.79% year-on-year to a record TWD 70,678 billion, slowing from 7.42% growth in July, while its average growth during the first eight months of 2026 was 6.62%. M2 increased 0.65% from the previous month, mainly reflecting weaker increases in foreign currency deposits and demand deposits. Lending and investment by all monetary institutions grew 9.43% year-on-year, up from 9.08% in July, driven mainly by faster growth in claims on the private sector and public enterprises. Including lending and investment by life insurers and adjusting for bad-debt write-offs transferred by monetary institutions, the broader measure increased 7.69% year-on-year, compared with 7.40% the previous month.
