Shanghai Electric presented three energy-transition solutions for Southeast Asia at Enlit Asia 2026 in Jakarta, held Sept. 22-24, under the theme "Powering the Archipelago." The solutions target lower emissions from existing thermal power systems, greater renewable integration and stability for island grids, and low-carbon fuels for shipping and aviation. Its High-Efficiency Power & Decarbonization offering includes unit upgrades, fuel transition and system optimization, including modular steam turbines for H- and F-class combined-cycle systems, heavy-duty gas turbines capable of up to 30% hydrogen blending, and coal-fired power retrofits. Its Grid Modernization & Resilience Upgrade combines synchronous condensers, flywheels, multi-technology energy storage and integrated solar-storage power pods to support frequency regulation, voltage stability and emergency power. The Power-to-X Integrated Solutions cover renewable generation, green hydrogen, biomass gasification and green methanol synthesis. Building on the Jilin Taonan project, Shanghai Electric said the project completed 8,000 tons of green-methanol bunkering, described as a global single-bunkering record. Phase II, launched Aug. 20, 2026, targets annual production of 200,000 tons of green methanol and 10,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel. The company is extending the solutions to ASEAN shipping and aviation markets. Enlit Asia attracts more than 11,000 attendees and 280 exhibitors and serves as an annual platform for the ASEAN power sector. Shanghai Electric also cited projects in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, including the Pelabuhan Ratu 3 x 350 MW coal-fired power station in Indonesia, a renewable energy plant in Selangor, Malaysia, and a recent 500 MW combined-cycle gas power project in Sarawak, Malaysia. It delivered a technical presentation on heavy-duty gas turbines and combined-cycle systems, and held discussions with representatives from PLN, local customers and energy-sector academics on fuel diversification and Indonesia's power-system development. The company said it will continue working with ASEAN partners on more efficient, stable and lower-carbon energy systems.
