ALDI said it will lower prices on a range of U.S. grocery items from Sept. 23 through at least Nov. 3, estimating the reductions will save shoppers about $86 million. Roughly one-third of its regularly stocked products will be priced below last year’s levels, with cuts covering seasonal produce, private-label products and proteins. Honeycrisp apples are priced at $1.99 per pound, 35% below last year and their lowest everyday price in more than five years, while Kirkwood chicken breast family packs are also $1.99 per pound, their lowest everyday price since 2022. The reductions come as grocery prices were 2.2% above year-ago levels in August, with fresh fruit up 3.8% and beef up 5.9%, while gasoline and diesel prices added pressure on household budgets. ALDI operates more than 2,600 U.S. stores and is competing with Kroger, Walmart and other grocers for cost-conscious customers.
