SoftBank Group has raised $11.1 billion in what Reuters described as the largest high-yield corporate bond sale on record, funding its investments in OpenAI and other artificial intelligence companies and infrastructure. The offering had been launched to finance the final $10 billion tranche of SoftBank's $30 billion follow-on OpenAI investment, expected to close on Oct. 1, with remaining proceeds designated for general corporate purposes. SoftBank's OpenAI investments are set to give it about 13% of the company's equity, while rising private-market valuations had produced $45 billion in unrealized gains as of the end of June. Founder and Chief Executive Masayoshi Son is expanding SoftBank's AI exposure across semiconductor design and manufacturing, data centers, large language models and robotics, including deals involving DigitalBridge, ABB's robotics business, Intel and Ampere Computing.
