Amazon launched Standard Ocean Express, a transportation service for businesses moving imported inventory from the West Coast to East Coast fulfillment centers, as its shares fell 2.49% to $248.63 after a sharp morning selloff. The service routes goods through the Port of Los Angeles and then uses direct rail to shorten transit times within Amazon's nationwide fulfillment network, helping sellers position stock closer to regional demand and reduce stockout risks. Standard Ocean Express is available specifically for Seller Managed Placement bookings, which send products to regional cross-dock facilities for distribution across Amazon's network. Sellers can review ocean freight rates during booking and receive estimated delivery windows, although Amazon has not disclosed separate pricing or comparisons with other transportation options. The service is part of Amazon's broader logistics expansion, including international ocean and air freight, trucking, parcel shipping and bulk storage. Earlier this year, Amazon launched Amazon Supply Chain Services to attract businesses beyond its online marketplace, while also expanding bulk storage capacity in China for inventory bound for the United States.
