Bird.com completed a $450 million debt financing led by J.P. Morgan and launched a revamped Agentic Harness as it expands in the US and targets the growing agent economy. The financing comprises a $400 million term loan and a $50 million revolving credit facility, structured as a dividend recapitalization that provides liquidity to existing shareholders, including current and former employees with equity. Bird generated $165 million in EBITDA in 2025 after extensively automating its operations, reducing headcount from more than 1,000 at its peak to 120 today. The company says automation increased productivity and lowered customer prices, with some channels costing 90% less than competitors. The renewed platform is a regulated, compliance-focused agent execution environment that lets AI agents send messages, place calls, manage email and obtain an eSIM phone plan on Bird's network without custom integration. Agents can create, update and manage information across Bird's systems through the technical protocols used to connect software, removing manual developer work and human logins. Bird says its end-to-end agent access is more extensive than competitors such as Twilio, while the platform supports multiple major AI models, including ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor. Founded in 2011 by Robert Vis, Bird provides communications infrastructure through one API for email, SMS, WhatsApp, voice and RCS across more than 150 countries, with headquarters in New York and Amsterdam.
