Blockstream’s Liquid Network continues to keep peg-outs (converting L-BTC back into Bitcoin) paused more than two weeks after attackers stole nearly 4,000 BTC on Sept. 6. The attackers returned roughly 3,400 BTC after onchain discussions but still hold 598.50 BTC worth more than $51 million. Bull Bitcoin, which depends on peg-outs to manage its inventories, said L-BTC-to-BTC swap and exchange services could resume within 30 days, while stressing that the estimate is an educated guess rather than a guarantee. The exchange has also disabled inbound Lightning Network payments to protect customers from holding L-BTC without assurance they can convert it back to BTC. Liquid said on Sept. 17 that block production, network transactions and L-BTC transfers had returned to normal since Sept. 10, but peg-outs remained suspended while it worked with Federation members and partners on a safe restoration. The Liquid Network has not issued another status update since then, and users on X criticized Bull Bitcoin’s estimate and the continued suspension.
