Hut 8 won Poolin Technology’s Pyote and Tarbush data center sites in West Texas for $140 million, about 2.7 times the combined $52 million minimum bid. Completion remains contingent on approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the District of New Jersey at a September 29 hearing. Poolin filed for bankruptcy in July with about $173 million in debt, including roughly $164 million owed to wallet users. The acquisition would add to Hut 8’s roughly 1.5 gigawatts of deployed Texas power capacity across operating and development sites, strengthening its strategy of securing power and grid connections for computing workloads including artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Hut 8 reported 949 megawatts of contracted IT capacity in the second quarter, with base-term contract value estimated at $26.6 billion, projected average annual net operating income above $1.75 billion, and $7.5 billion of investment-grade financing obtained. The deal comes as energized data center sites command growing premiums amid constrained grid access, rising AI demand and regulatory scrutiny of Texas data-center development.
