Qualcomm is expanding its collaboration with Samsung Electronics beyond Galaxy smartphone application processors to extended reality (XR), smartwatches, artificial intelligence (AI) glasses and other wearables such as earbuds. The strategy envisions smartphones, watches, glasses, earbuds and XR devices sharing user context as a unified personal AI ecosystem, with the smartphone remaining the central AI hub. Qualcomm presented the strategy on Sept. 23, the second day of Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui, Hawaii. Google said Samsung Electronics and Google developed Android XR and optimized it for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR platform. Samsung’s Galaxy XR combines the Snapdragon XR2 2nd Gen with Google’s generative AI system Gemini, while Qualcomm demonstrated smart glasses using on-device AI to recognize surroundings and respond by voice even in airplane mode.
