The NZX 50 closed little changed at 13,825 on Thursday, after rising 0.1% to 13,836 in morning trade, as gains in energy, industrial and financial stocks were offset by declines in technology, communication services and real estate. Global sentiment was pressured by higher oil prices, US-Iran uncertainty and surging Treasury yields; on September 24, the 10-year US Treasury yield reached 5.223%, the highest since June 2007, while the 30-year yield reached 5.501%, the highest since June 2004. Fed funds futures priced more than a 70% chance of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October, up from about 55% a week earlier. Wall Street ended mixed, while reports of discussions on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing US sanctions on Iran helped stocks recover from session lows.
