President Lee Jae-myung and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expanded cooperation on crude oil, critical resources, investment, digital industries, aerospace, defense and public safety during Lee's state visit to Mexico. The countries agreed to establish an inter-ministerial dialogue on crude oil and key supply-chain resources, following Mexico's assistance in securing additional oil volumes for South Korean companies. They also concluded seven years of negotiations to revise their investment protection agreement and said they would work toward its entry into force, including through parliamentary ratification. South Korea will send a public-private delegation to Mexico in November for digital-cooperation discussions and use a Korea-Mexico Space Day event to identify aerospace projects. The leaders also discussed local production by South Korean defense companies as Mexico modernizes its military, while establishing cooperation frameworks covering anti-corruption, agriculture, food safety and efforts against online fraud, human trafficking and drugs. Mexico also expressed support for Lee's policy of peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
