Banks’ overall prudential exposure to crypto assets remained broadly unchanged in the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s (BCBS) 2025 second-half statistics, but the asset mix shifted substantially in the Americas. Bitcoin’s share fell from 75.8% to 44.2%, while Ethereum rose to 38.5%; Solana and XRP accounted for 7.8% and 5.6%, respectively. Other regions showed a stronger shift toward stablecoins (crypto tokens designed to maintain a stable value). Because total crypto-asset risk did not change significantly, the figures do not establish how much Bitcoin banks sold or how much of the other assets they bought. Customer-related activity increased 93% in the Americas to 6.4 billion euros, while Europe recorded a 25% decline to 1.9 billion euros.
